I grew up in East London with my father, a bolier scaler, and my mother with seven children to look after. We all lived in North Street, Poplar, until the day came when the sky went black filled with German aircraft circling the sky. We all went rushing to a shelter away from the bomb that had just hit Broomfield Street killing over 100 people. This is where they used to make lifeboats. sliding them into to the Thames and sending them to Brighton and Worthing. The people that died there ending up being buried there!

The new underground station, Befenalgreen was also bombed. A lady and child fell over, causing everyone to fall on top of them and they all died, over 100 people!

I trained to help my country in Dover and prepared for the fighting I had to do. The day of the journey to Germany by boat was an unpleasant day, I made sure that I ate enough bread and jam sandwiches to prevent sea sickness. We arrived in Holland, and travelled by lorries to the army camp in Germany. The German children called out to us begging for kippers (cigarettes) and food. We threw our jam sandwiches to them, although we were starving!

Our laundry girls used to visit us at the camp, and we gave them cigarettes and soap in return. What a treat!

We roamed all around Germany, Essen, Cologne, Berlin, nearly every part. I used to do the Majors driving in the jeep, looking at the flattened cities. We passed cellars of people buried deep underground in Dusselldorf, they had been buried alive and there was nothing we could do. After the war, the major invited me back to his house and we went fishing, intil i broke his rod!

My good friend Mac survived his original crew before he joined our camp. His friends died in the bombing, but he survived and was awarded the Miliatry Medal for his courage.

In one of my phtos, you can see a swosticker ( a German Flag), in amongst all the trees and next to all the water that flooded the cities and washed away factories and buildings due to the intense bombing.

The Black Forest contained beautiful 6ft blonde hair and blue eyed girls, breeded by Hitler for the future force to create the perfect children. He wanted to bring them up for furure Germany. In the end, the Russians bombed and slaughtered all the young girls, and wanted to do the same to Hitler before he poisoned and killed himself.
