I was thirteen when war broke out and things got very scarce.
I well remember going to the town 10 miles away with my mother joining all the queues.
We didn鈥檛 know what they were for, standing for ages sometimes 鈥 and when it was our turn to be served, they鈥檇 say 鈥淪orry Run Out鈥, so onto the next.
My mother and I would stand behind each other and get what was going.
The thrill when we got home and tipped our bags out to reveal oranges, sweets, biscuits, chocolate etc.
Our backs were aching but our spirits were very high.
