This is an interview with Wilf Mills, Deanna,s grandad.
Q. How old were you when the war started?
A. I was 12 years old when the war started.
Q. How did the war affect you?
A. It was really hard to see at night because of the blackout, and there was loads of car accidents and even some people killed!
Q. Did you know anyone who's house was bombed?
A. No, I didn't but my grandma had a un-exploding bomb fall on her house.
Q. Did you have a bomb shelter in your garden?
A. No, because we had a cellar deep into the ground.
Q. Were you evacuated?
A. No because we lived near the country-side in a small village.
Q. Did your father go to war?
A. No, he worked on a railway station helping the evacuees.
Q. How much chocolate did you get a month?
A. I got 2oz but that included sweets as well.
Q. How old were you when the war ended?
A. I was about 18 years.
