One day I heard a commotion in the sky directly over our house, and rushing outside saw a spitfire and what I presumed was German plane having a dog-fight. My mother tried to get me back indoors but I refused - it was too exciting. Eventually they went out of sight, but some time later returned doing the victory roll. It wasn't until 5 years ago that I learned that in fact it was a mock battle, with obviously two English pilots, and so of course the Spitfire had not shot down the other plane. I was most disappointed!
