You only had your teeth examined by the school.
There were no dentists around because they had been called up for the war.
The dentist didn't come to the school very often.
We were before the National Health Service so it was a great struggle for my parents to put in for the private doctors fees.
We were quite healthy though.
I think people were much healthier.
No-one had carpets, so there were no dust mites.
We used carbolic soap for everything.
We didn't buy toilet paper - we used to sit in the evenings and cut newspaper up into squares.
