From the age of eighteen to twenty one I worked as an oxy-cetylene welder on Lancaster bombers. First I welded bomb containers which needed a heavy weld. Then I had to pass a test to work on the elevators located on the wings which you had to use a very light weld on. I also riveted the wings. I had three brothers in the forces. The youngest of twenty one was killed at Tobruk in 1941. The eldest was taken prisoner of war. The middle one almost lost his life in Burma with typhoid.
