Gladys Lloyd recalls being evacuated to Shropshire:-
鈥淚 had two children, one aged seven and one five. They told us lies though, because they said we could send the seven year old, and the next day we could follow with the other son. Well, you know, I was there a fortnight before I could find him. I went to every school in the district, but nobody knew where he was. Then eventually when I found him, we came home. When we came home it was worse, you know, black outs. We used to have the air-raid shelter in the back yard. We put the kids鈥 beds down there and as soon as the sirens went, me and the two kids would be down there, as sure as anything.鈥
