I was a territorial and was called up for duty on 3rd September 1939 in the 9th Battalion Cameronians as 2nd Lieutenant. After duty in the South of England, I volunteered for Africa. I served with the 1st Battalion Nigerian Regiment before going to Burma via India and Ceylon where I fought down the Kabaw Valley in monsoon conditions against the Japanese Imperial Forces.
After 5 years away I returned to the UK in April 1945 as a Major and married Agnes on 1st May! What a risk, but we have celebrated our Diamond Wedding Anniversary on 1st May 2005!!!
