I was only a child when war broke out. I was evacuated twice as we lived in Dagenham and the bombs came down one after the other, they were after Fords then at Factory for making bombs, when the blitz started I was home as I was so home sick. We spent most of our lives in the Air Raid shelter in the garden, it was so frightening needless to say our house caught the full blast from a bomb, we had no lights, no lavy. Nothing. My mum got about 拢20 from the Government, she thought she was rich.
I used to queue for 2 oranges as I had a green ration book.
People were very united I cant remember any one being bad to children.
