Basket of Incendiary Bombs

I was 11 years old living at home in Gravesend with my Mum and two Sisters. We were sheltering under the table when a whole basket of incendiary bombs dropped on our house. We managed to get out with just what we stood up in. We think the bomber homed in on a searchlight near our house. We moved to an Aunt鈥檚 house. My father was in the Navy on the Clyde and we moved to be with him. On the journey overnight by train there was standing room only as it was packed with service people and evacuees, it seemed for ever. We travelled in complete darkness because of blackout regulations. We were in Rothesay, Isle of Bute for 3 years.
