My name is C.R. Hinton.
My colleagues and I were stationed in Ipswich in Ipswich serving with The Queens Royal Regiment and were billeted in the Anglesea Road area.
I was a Corporal billeted in the 3 inch mortar platoon, and often used Christchurch Park in the centre of Ipswich for training.
On one particuar occasion during a period of training, my Lance Corporal started to chat to a young lady with a baby in a pram. I had tocall him to rejoin the platoon and do the job that he was supposed to do. On return to our billet he told me that he had made a date to meet this girl and her friend and me.
After a lot of argueing I decided to go. We met the girlsoutside the Odeon Cinema and went to see the film. The girl I met turned out to become my wife whom I marriedat All Saints Church by special licence on 26th May 1945, after having served with the 8th Army in North Africa and Italy where I was wounded on September 24th 1944 and was repatriated.
So as you can see, Christchurch Park in Ipswich has played a very important part in my life.
