We had nine cottages in our hamlet. The farmer at Harts Farm, Alec Butler used to call out every morning after a raid to see if everyone was alright. My mother would count the fighter planes going out, and again count them coming home.
Us kids would pick up the silver streamers the planes used to drop to mess up the radar signals.
There was great rivalry to collect the most.
We would take them to school to share with our friends.
The soldiers were very friendly and joined in our pantomimes, they also gave us gum.
