HMS Centurian in Devenport Sunday 3rd September 1939 10.30am all stopped work to listen to broadcast and War was declared at 11am. They were sent to have dinner. Had to paint all things on deck from bright and sparkly to Navy grey. Controlled from Destroyer by wireless and Centurian became a target. Served for over 11 years in the Navy.
