i wasx 17 when i joined the TA, the reson being was that in the TA you got a free 2 week holiday at camp. but before that happened i was enlisted and sent to dunkirk at the age of 17. near the end of the dunkirk disaster campaine we stayed on the beach for 3 days,, every man for himself including the officers. well you heard the story of queing to get on board a ship only to find it had sunk and was sitting on the sea bed with its funnel above the water, well that was true as i was in the line, nobody said anything on as they passed us on the way back from the sunken boat. i am 83 now well 84 in july but it was like yesterday.
