One recollection of my wartime memories was of my fathers experience in the home guard fire watching on Boulton and Pauls roof, and extinguishing the fallen incendiary bombs with his stirrup pump and throwing them off the roof.

My husband recalls the time when walking home from school at Hoveton with friends, when they were shot at by a german fighter plane, and would probably have been hit if it wasn鈥檛 for the presence of mind of an older boy shouting to them to jump in the ditch.

The german plane was later shot down and the pilot parachuted and landed in the woods. For months afterwards when walking through the woods, he remembers seeing the remains of the parachute hanging from the trees.

Message 1 - Memories,

Posted on: 06 September 2004 by Frank Mee Researcher 241911

Hello Norma welcome aboard, why learner are you new on the computer? If so you pass with full marks.
I had an experience of machine gunning in Darlington.
We were on an Army Cadet Course when the sirens went and the nearest shelter was down the bottom of a lomg street. We got onto the road just as two Bombers flying low opened up with their guns, I remember sparks flying off the cobbles and the noise being horrendous as I dived into a shop doorway curled up and stayed there until it was all clear. There were thirty young lads in that street as well as the senior staff and no one got a scratch. It was good training for when I eventually went in the army having learned most bullets miss.
Read some of the other stories on the site by clicking on to the names, this will open up the personal page of that person with all stories and letters or postings as we call them. Try it by clicking onto my name at the top of this page but you do not have to read my dull stuff if you do not wish. It will get you into other stories and postings though, a way to meet people. It will also show you how to structure stories and bring out the facts there in.
regards Frank.
