I worked as a Theatre Sister in Glasgow Western Infirmary Hospital throughout the War. My boyfriend, Frank was an Officer in the Argyl and Sutherland Regiment, and a Doctor with the Royal Army Medical Corps. We spent most of the War apart as Frank served in India and Italy. When the end of War was declared, Frank wrote to me proposing marriage - we were not engaged during the War as Frank was worried about the future for us. I had 1 week to arrange the Wedding and had to beg borrow, but not steal, as much as I could. We were married on 28 December 1945 in a little Chapel at the Grosvenor Hotel in Glasgow. I had a rich fruit cake base for my wedding cake with three cardboard tiers. My wedding dress was borrowed from a friend, the veil was my Mother鈥檚.I had enough coupons for shoes but they were very tight. My wedding day underwear came from parachute silk!We spent our honeymoon at the Glendevan Hotel near Dollar. A tradition for all newlyweds was to sign your name on a Postage stamp and stick it on the Bar Ceiling.
