Mr John Mullaney

Evacuated at nine years old to Wales, near Abergele and lived there for four years on a farm run by an old Welsh lady called Sara Owen. It was fair lodgings and though he had to work hard seemed to enjoy the experience. During his time there he looked after sheep, and helped with lambing and received a sheep of his own in payment and all of it鈥檚 lambs were his to sell at market (which was a 14mile walk away). He also helped with milking and hay-making.
He bought his own bike and would snare rabbits to sell to the local butcher, he remembers a dealer in a van would go round the farms buying food to sell in Liverpool. The old lady said if he hadn鈥檛 had a mother she would have adopted him herself.
