His most clear and interesting memory is from the shelter. There was a man called Mr Manders who used to tell them stories, play music on his accordian and sing songs to take their minds of the many falling bombs. he once told one about him getting lost. He then said he came across an elephants nest and spent a lot of time trying to crack the eggs for food. Bryan believed him and it was not until he was 12 that he realised that elephants did not lay eggs!!. He also remembers a large water tank in the middle of Cannon Street in case of bombs. He also remembers St Pauls Cathedral being severely bombed and the fear it caused throughout England.
