One of his best mates I know as Bill was a diver. I recall that they had to do an inquiry into a sunken submarine. Of course they wore the lead boots and screw-on helmets. When they pulled him up there was very little response. When they unscrewed the helmet he wan't very coherent and he went down with jet black hair and came back with white. Some time later coming out of sick bay he started telling me dad that when he went down to this sub he opened the hatch and it seemed apparent that six to eight persons had died in this mess room and water had seeped in and filled the compartment. When he opened the hatch the bodies which were sitting down sort of floated towards him because he'd created a current that moved them. It was that shock that made his hair go white.
