I worked in a big factory in Cambridge packing food, which was then put onto a van and taken to 30 shops in Cambridge. Everything was rationed. We were allowed only one jar of jam a month. Milk and bread were also rationed. We had ration books which had to be marked for everything we brought. A bomb was dropped near Mill Road Bridge. Nobody was killed but some people were hurt. A house near by was demolished. Little children were evacuated to Cambridge. My husband was bombed out in London. He was evacuated to Teversham where he worked on the land. My husband and I had never met before and now we鈥檝e been married nearly 57 years. We have four children, 2 sons and 2 daughters plus grandchildren and great grandchildren. We met at a dance hall in Cambridge. Later, we got married and had children. My husband was 18 when he joined the Home Guard, then he joined the army. He got call up papers.
