Around 1977 my brother and I were digging around in our Nan's old air-raid shelter in Bradstow Way Broadstairs, then converted to a shed. My brother found a grey coloured tubular object with fins on the end and we immediately recognized it as a bomb! I showed it to my dad who'd been in the army who told me it was an incendiary bomb (fire bomb). My Nan who'd lived in the same house throughout the war recognized it and told me it had fallen on the house behind during the war and burnt it out. My granddad had retrieved the then spent incendiary device (fire bomb) and kept it as a souvenir. I don't know where it is now; I think my dad binned it. However my Nan's neighbour gave me a shoe box of shrapnel dug out of her garden too.
