I lived in Malone area of Belfast, and in 1941 remember the bombing of Belfast, and clouds of burning paper descending on the garden Family hid under the dining room table with mattresses on top!. Father was in AFS and had some scary moments.
Memories too of Donaghadee and RAF rescue launch based at Harbour, sinking of s.s Troutpool, stranding of two convoy ships at Pickie around 1944 growing flax on golf course.
Sinking of Princess Victoria, was at Larne when Larne Islandmagee ferry was overwhelmed with seven on board, all were saved. Returned poste haste to Donaghadee where lifeboat arrived on second return trip with bodies on board. Next day off Portavogie where bodies, mail sacks etc were seen floating about half a mile off shore, but Portavogie fishermen refused to go out because it was a Sunday!!!!
