The patient asked
The Nurse, and
The Nurse asked
The Sister
"Could he have a little tray
Of breakfast in his bed?"
The Nurse asked
The Sister and
The Sister answered
"Certainly,
Go and tell the orderly
To see that he is fed!"
The V.A.D
Said, "Certainly,"
And went and told
The orderly:
"Don't forget the Patient
Wants his breakfast in his bed!"
The orderly
Said sleepily
"You'd better go and tell him
That many people
Nowadays
Are getting up instead."
The V.A.D
Said "Fancy"
And went to
The Sister -
She spoke to the Sister, and
She turned a little red.
"Excuse me, dear Sister,
For making the suggestion,
But getting up is nicer
If you've had eight hours in bed!"
The Sister said
"Oh!"
And went to
The Patient:
"Talking of that little tray
Of breakfast in the bed;
Many people
Think that
Getting up
Is nicer
Would you like to try a little getting up
Instead?"
The Patient said
"Bother"
And then he said
"Oh deary me"
And snuggled down in bed.
"Nobody"
He whispered,
"Could call me a fussy man,
I only want
A little tray
Of breakfast in my bed!"
The sister said
"There, there,"
And went to the V.A.D.
The V.A.D said
"There, there
I'll fetch hime some instead."
The orderly said
"There, there
I din't really mean it,
Here's a lovely little tray of breakfast
Ready for his bed!"
The Nurse took
The breakfast,
And brought it to
The Patient.
The Patient said
"Breakfast, eh?"
And bounced up in bed,
"Nobody " he said
As he kissed her
Tenderly,
"Nobody" he said
As he pulled up
The eiderdown,
"Nobody, my darling
Could call me a fussy man,
But
I do like a litle tray of breakfast in my bed."

Message 1 - Breakfast in bed

I loved your poem, and smiled all the way through it. I think A.A. Milne would have smiled and enjoyed it too. Thank you,

Message 2 - Breakfast in bed

I think this poem is great and takes me back to reading AA Milnes' poem - which I loved. Reading this may encourage me to send one of my Mum's poems in to add to this site!
