I Served on several ships, the Kelly a destroyer and the Norfolk a cruiser. On the Norfolk we were trying to stop german ships raiding convoys. These ships were used to chase the.The german ships were all together better .It took most of the royal navy to destroy the Bismark ..I looked after the engines. I joined the navy in 1938 a year before the war , and stayed in the navy for forty years. Iwent tonorth africa in 1939 and stayed out there for three years . The accomadation was allright, you slept in a hammock. We got regular shore leave. We has tailor made clothes by a chinese tailor, and could by silk shirts for a pound
