I Joined the WAAF in February 1943 after being called up, I鈥檇 only just started working in a bank. I went up to Morcambe for Square Bashing, the weather was cold and very wet. We all lived in seaside b&bs, they were very cramped conditions as the Landladys fitted in as many of us as they could. After six weeks I was sent to Stoke Holy Cross, Norwich. I was there as an untrained operator, I spent three months at Stoke Holy Cross watching and learning. From there I went to Yatesbury, Wiltshire for official training, I spent six weeks training. On completion of the training I was sent to a place in Stenigot, Lincolnshire to work as a Radar Operator, I spent two/three months here. Next I was posted to RAF Patrington, Yorkshire and spent about fourteen months here. I also spent time in Scotland, the war ended whilst I was in Scotland and I remember being in Edinburgh on VJ Day, there were lots of celebrating and High Jinx, the Americans were throwing Fire Crackers. After the war I was posted to Inverness and then to Down Patrick, Northeren Ireland. I spent six months in Northern Ireland but this time monitoring RAF aircraft that were not at war. I returned to Maidenhead, England and spent a year doing clerical work for the WAAF. In 1947 I was demobed in Blackpool.
