I joined the WTS (FANY) in May 1944 aged 18. I trained in Henley-on-Thames and Dunbar/Scotland as a wireless operator until December. You had to learn to receive and send 25 words/minute in Morse.
In January 1945 I went to Bombay, on to Poona and by train to Calcutta where I served until the end of the war on 14th August and on until mid-October in order to aid the repatriation of POWs who came back from South-East Asia.
I then came back to Liverpool on the 鈥淢auretania鈥 and on to London to be de-mobed late November.
