I lived in Leamington Spa near Coventry. In 1938 they issued gas masks to everyone in the village. I can remember feeling very anxious about what it all meant, as my Dad had told me lots of stories about the First World War. My little sister was very cross because she was just too young for a Mickey Mouse gas mask.
