JT Green and Tank

I submit this picture in case it is of interest to others. It is of my father, J.T. Green (In the background with the pipe) and, presumably, his comrades. He was in a Tank Regiment as can be seen and was a Tank Commander.

I know he fought in Egypt and Italy and landed on D Day plus 3 or 4. He was mentioned in Despatches but was not forthcomming as to the reason.

Hello
I was interested in your story about your Father (Ican't see the picture at the moment), but do you have anymore information about D-Day3/4.

My Father, who was in the Rifle Brigade was in Belgium mid Sept 1944 and the tank regiments were part of the Division.

Pam - before you go haring off down that lane of Tank regiments being in the same division as the Rifle bde .... slow down as MOST divisions had a few Tank regiments hanging about
an Armoured division for example had two Infantry Brigades and one Tank Bde.
which had three Tank regiments this means that each Armed Div had around 200 Tanks to play with !
In my own case with the 1st Canadian Infantry Division of three Infantry Bdes. we, as 21st Tank Bde had three regiments of Tanks PLUS the services of another - the 25th Tank Bde if we ran out of spares - during the Liri Valley Battle the 25th T.B led the charge whereas at the Gothic Line - we, the 21st led the charge but it went on so long that we then had to bring in the 25th AND the 1st Armed Div as well as another 2 Tank Bdes over by Gemmano and Croce ...so in the one month long battle we had at least 13 Tank regiments(750 Tanks) all fighting at once, but we still won !
So until we know this chap's regiment...stay cool ! There's a good girl !

Hello Tom

You know me to well - there's no fooling you !!!! I can't see the picture - so off I went. As I said before - I'm still learning so you will all have to bear with me. I shall have to curb my enthusiasm.

Best wishes
Pam

Pam -
there is agreat danger here of you confusing the heck out of me - when we first met it was looking for your.... ? - who was in Tunis joining the 6th Black Watch - who then went to Salerno then Minturno.....so now this is your Father - who was in the 23rd Hussars - in the Rifle Brigade - I don't think so...the 23rd Hussars MIGHT have been in the same DIVISION as the Rifle bde ..... but... trouble is I don't have an order of battle for the NW Europe campaign so I am out of my depth here...perhaps Peter has it all on his website - I'll have alook later !
Cheers

Hello Tom

I think you maybe confusing me with someone else. My Father was in the Rifle Brigade and won the MM in April 1945, and was part of the 11th Armoured Division he was in the Ardennes during Dec 1944 and finished in Germany May 1945. I have inherited some of his army memorabilia which include photographs of the 23rd Hussars, whom I am trying to find.

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

Regards
Pam
