I was Aged 12 when the war started
Someone had given my mother 2 old coats, from the 1920s, they were long from the shoulder, my mother wanted a woman to make a siren suit, it cost 5 bob, the siren suit was when the air raid siren went, I grabbed the siren suit and spent all night in the bomb shelter, in the morning I went to school in my siren suit, I got my attendance tick and went back home!
In dell primary school, Rockferry, there was no shelter, so I had to run over a field and share a shelter with a woman whose daughter was evacuated. I wanted to be evacuated with the other children but my mother thought if a family was killed then they would all die together. I had the most shrapnel in the neighbourhood
Looking forward to 60 years in May
My sister worked in a grocery shop she was able to swap rations with others. Rabbit stew made by my mother was the most delicious food, spam tried to make rabbit stew herself.
Never had girls going out with yanks, always give their girls presents, cousin from Idaho, the only American she ever knew with no money. She (aged 14) paid for him to do things.
