When I was about 12 years old, I saw Hess shot down and interned. We had just moved to Glasgow in the early part of the war and there were 2 or 3 houses along from us and a chap called Scott, an officer in the Home Guard was on duty the evening Hess was shot down and the Home Guard was sent out to apprehend the German flyer.
Mr Scott interegated the flyer who refused to identify himself and eventually he was taken by the Home Guard by a military department and on leaving Mr Scott, the flyer handed him a fountain pen and said "you'll probably value this when you learn who I am"
