The first job I did when I left school was a petrol pump attendant. You had coupons. If you were say a farmer, you got green coupons, if you were a traveller you got red coupons. diffrent prices for different coupons. Green were 11d a gallon, red 3/2d a gallon. I got 12/6d a week for 6 days a week. There were 5 pumps open, I was reponsible for filling the cars, taking the coupons and giving change. The cars, lorries and tractors queued all the way down Millgate waiting to be filled up. At aged 14, you had to go to work - left school on the Friday and started work on the Monday. I stayed for about 2 years. Then I went to work for the local pork butcher
