When I was a boy, I lived in Hermon, Pembrokshire and at night I could see on the horizon the glow from the bombing of Swansea. I also remember seeing British and American soldiers doing manoeuvres on the Preselies and I could hear guns being fired. One Saturday they marched through the village for hours followed by tanks. In school our headmaster, an ex army soldier, had both girls and boys marching backwards and forwards across the school yard.
