I fire watched in West Street Brighton all night and had to go to work in the morning. My mother was at Preston Viaduct when she was bombed by German aircraft and had to take cover and wasn't affected though the viaduct itself was badly damaged. My husband was in the 52nd lowland scottish division trained to go to Norway to ski and the Norwegians capitulated and he ended up in Holland. His division was the first to cross the Rhine.
