At the age of 13 I was in South Africa as an evacuee .in 1942 the R.A.F posted my Father to the U.K and the three of us boarded the SS.Laconia which set sail via Cape Town .ON THE 12TH of September we were torpedoed by a German submarine and spent 5 days in an open boat. we were picked up by a French cruiser and taken to Casablanca where we were put into an internment camp.When the Americans landed we were freed and sent to Gibralta.After few days in Hospital we were sent back to Liverpool arriving a few days before Christmas.
