Anthony Johnson now lives in Tisbury ,Wiltshire.

When he was at Bude he joined the CCF and was drafted into Cornish Home guard
on 17 May 1944 joined Home Guard on D Day in Bude, North Cornwall. He reached the rank of Sergeant .He was fascinated in the war and was given the opportunity to listen to Churchill鈥檚 speeches in his housemaster鈥檚 study.

In the holidays he returned home to Bristol and was amazed at the damage, which the bombing had done to the city centre. He and his friends went everywhere on their bikes as their parents rarely drove them anywhere due to the fuel rations. The boys would think nothing of cycling twenty miles to see friends.

During his school days he had a fairly strong calling to be ordained after a suggestion from one of his masters. He had completed an MA at Oxford and then he went to theological college at in 1951.
