This story was gathered by Joan Armstrong at the Tullie House 60th World war II Anniversary Event.
I went as a small boy, about 10, to visit Granda & 2 uncles. We were there for a short visit. The night we arrived there was an air raid. Me mam was that scared the next day we were back in Carlisle. We learnt that during that air raid there had been a direct hit on a lemonade factory and there was approximately 280 people killed.
Air raid in Harraby, Carlisle
Dad was an Air Ministry Policeman coming off nightshift. I was at home with mam and my sister. The Bombers were over Carlisle and they dropped two bombs on Harraby but they didn鈥檛 explode. The moment the door opened and me mam saw me dad, it was like winning the lottery. We hid under the table from the bombers returning from the raid.
