What the youngsters of today don鈥檛 realise when they complain about identity cards is that all civilians had them in the war and I can still remember my number today
It was RMKO 2223
I wrote this poem in 1942 about the boys in the war, it鈥檚 called 鈥淏ritain鈥檚 Heroes鈥
Away from Britain鈥檚 shore one day
There sailed a gallant crew
Their staunch old ship was laden
With soldiers brave and true
They landed in the Middle East
Once more to fight the foe
So England shall again be free
And all may come and go
Now when we have the Nazi鈥檚 beat
And war comes to an end
The boy鈥檚 will all come home again
To peace which they defend
Rose Dawes 1942
