In 1981 my wife and I went on holiday to Spain with the over 50's club for a fortnight. The first night in the hotel, we went to the dance hall and my wife danced with another guest. When she came back to our table she said a lady at another table had kept staring at her while she was dancing! I told my wife she should go over and ask her why. However, in the mean time the lady in question came over and asked my wife if she had been evacuated to Scarborough during the war in 1940, and if so was the house she was billeted in bombed? My wife remembered it all too well. The daughter of the house had been killed and her body had fallen on to my wife, who had been covered in the debris. She had, in effect, been buried alive for a few hours.
The lady who spoke to my wife said that the girl who died had been her best friend and, despite the number of years which had passed, she had immediately recognised my wife.
She said that my wife's features had not changed in 40 years. I may also add that I knew nothing of this story until the lady revealed her identity and the whole terrible story was recalled.
