I was 16 and lived with my mum, dad and younger sister in Tyseley and worked in Erdington doing office work.
I worked 6 days a week. On Sunday it was day of rest.
We would get home and had enough time to get a meal before the sirens went off and then we would go down to the shelter. The council gave us shelter to put in the ground in the garden.
We had to have curtains down in the evening during the blackout and make sure no light was showing through.
In the morning, we would come out after being given the all clear and see the damage the bombs had done, for example buildings destroyed.
The bombs were mostly at night so we could go out in the day.
The war ended when I was 22 and I don鈥檛 remember much else as I was quite young.
We had coupons to buy food and clothes including things for wedding.
