One month before the end I came home on leave from the Middle East, and went back on V.E day. I arrived at Liverpool where everyone was celebrating. I went back for nine months when my tour years were finished. A year later, I was still in the Army. I was in a military hospital in Essex, where that German soldier P.O.W camp was. We had a German P.O.W patient: he was a good chap and was very helpful. Before the war he was an artist and a photographer. He painted a bluebell wood on a tea tray for me, which is still hanging on the wall to this day.
