I have no idea what this story is about, except to say that my Dad (Jim McDonald) went to France with the BEF, in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers, was repatriated at Dunkirk and went ashore in the first wave on D-Day. He fought through to the Rhine, left the battalion in 1945 and lived in Weymouth with other members of the Regiment who had married local Dorset girls. One friend we used to visit was "jock" cluleu?? another ex KOSB soldier. Dad never talked about the war, except to say that it " frightened him shitless ", having watched "Saving Private Ryan"
I have no idea how they did it.
He produced 3 sons, all served in the Forces, 2 in the Army, one in the Navy ( everybody has a black sheep ). Middle son, me, served 28 years as Paratrooper, Marine amongst other things and fought in the Falklands Conflict ( War ) and would be grateful if somebody could give me steer on how to trace what Dad did.
How brave were you all, how can we ever compare to the sacrifice you made and how can the people of today ever, ever understand.
If anyone is ex-KOSB or knows a way of tracing the history, please respond to the EMail address.
