I remember that my father was at the railway sation in Bedford one day, when he noticed a couple of nuns on the platform. They appeared to be wandering around, pointing their umberellas at the railway sidings, and the local munitions factory. My father was suspicious, and so alerted the station supervisor, who in turn alerted the autiorities. The nuns were arrested. It turned out that they were indeed German spies checking out potential targets.
