I remember that my father was at the railway sation in Bedford one day, when he noticed a couple of nuns on the platform. They appeared to be wandering around, pointing their umberellas at the railway sidings, and the local munitions factory. My father was suspicious, and so alerted the station supervisor, who in turn alerted the autiorities. The nuns were arrested. It turned out that they were indeed German spies checking out potential targets.

Message 1 - German Spies in Bedford

This seems to be an extraordinary crass way for agents to behave, can you give more details? Were they men or women disguised as nuns? In what year were they arrested? It is most unusual for two spies to openly meet in a public place in this way and to start gesticulating and discussing targets.
