Poem written in Birmingham on the day War was declared.

It was born in sunshine.
Birdsong and laughter come of carefree hearts.
Church bells pealed out, and in the woods,
Along brown paths, a rabit darts.
And Peace is here.

It died in sunset's splendour
And the whispering wind was still in the leafy trees.
No lights shone out, and quiet the land
Save the tall grass when caressed by the breeze
And War is here.
