This is a story my son Kristian has written for the "People's War project. As he is only ten years old, and some of the content on this site may not be suitable for him, the 大象传媒 has asked me to submit his story on his behalf. It is as follows:
My Grandmother's Lucky Escape
My grandmother is (happily!) still alive. She is 65 years
old, and suffered from the misfortunes of the bombing in Wales as she
was about five then. Her story has always stuck in my head.
My grandma lived (and still lives) in Swansea which was an important
port in WW2(and still is quite important). This meant that the Nazis
bombed it more than some other towns(but still not as much as
Cardiff). On a cold evening in 1943, when the bombing had subsided quite a
bit but was still happening, my great-grandma took my grandma (about 4-5
then,I dont have very clear details) to the church to take shelter from
the bombs of the Luftwaffe.
About an hour later, My great-grandmother decided to go home as she
couldn't hear bombs any more. when she came back in the morning, the
church had been destroyed. If she had stayed in the church, I wouldn鈥檛 be
here to tell the tale.
The End
