LEAVING HOLLAND

Moving on to the night we made the breakthrough at Winnenkendonk into Germany. When we had 100 casualites. Helped by the Guards Armoured Brigade Tanks. One squadron was led by Dr Runcie, the late Archbishop of Canterbury that was the night he won the MC, going on to cross the river Rhine on my 19th Birthday. For all this my pay for 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week was one pound forty pence a week.
