Worked at Aycliffe as a driver, was allowed to drive the new bus which was twice the size of the old ones. He was taken to Gilesgate Drill Hall every sunday morning and there with the use of a chair was shown how to drive in a convoy.

Home-guard delivered a rifle to our house and mother, his wife, refused to accept it saying that he would shoot himself.
