This story has been added to The People鈥檚 War Website by CSV Volunteer Olivia Davey on behalf of the author David Ward who understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.

I had no shoes to wear, they were worn out, we were always strapped- even the poor ignored us. Mother had a pair of court shoes they were red and she coloured them black and I had to wear them to school. I had the mickey taken out of me.

Message 1 - Mother's shoes

Posted on: 18 August 2005 by Audrey Lewis - WW2 Site Helper

Dear David Ward,
Thank you for telling us about your mother's shoes.
How sad that you did not have shoes to wear during the war years.
Little girls had to do the same. Growing feet suffered terribly. I hope your feet are well?
Kind regards,
Audrey Lewis
