The above plate was issued by the Birmingham Mail to commemorate the 50th VE Day Anniversary. The photograph was apparently taken from their files and they had no record of where the street party was held. Fortunately someone from the street recognised the photograph and contacted the Birmingham Mail. Also the publication of this plate led to a reunion of the friends who had grown up together in a little cul de sac in Shirley throughout the war years, many of whom had moved away to other parts of the country and the world. Ten years on and we have now had several wonderful get togethers and it has been great to talk about the times when we were young and how the families all helped each other during those difficult years. Thank you to the Birmingham Mail for bringing us back together again.
