During the night we were all in doors and heard the doodlebug coming over. Its engine stopped. I ran out to the back door and called my dad who was in the garden, and as he got in the kitchen door, the doodlebug crashed and a big piece of the plaster ceiling came out over the top of my father. It dropped down on it. When I looked there was a little pile of plaster on top of his cap. The doodlebug caused a lot of damage. It blew the electric generator across the road. We were without electricity for about 4 days until it was replaced. All our windows were blown in, the window frames were dislodged. A block of terraced houses on the opposite side of the road, had all their windows and doors blown in and the roof blown off. People were trapped in the house and I think the young lad was in the paper having rescued his sister. As boys will be boys, we used to climb about the empty shells.
