Here is Bill, guarding a 2 engine fighter bomber that has crashed.
I have fond memories of Bill, an American Airforce Military Policeman who was stationed at Gosfield Aerodrome near Braintree. I was a young lad and loved hearing Bill's stories when he came over to visit my Mother. Bill became a part of our family and both he and my Mother were committed to move over to America after the War and to live as a family in the States.
Bill was sent over to France with the D Day landings. He kept in touch with my Mother right through his time in France. Bill was finally shipped back to America, where he continued to keep in touch, hoping that my Mother and the family would be allowed to move over to the States. Time and time again he came up against a brick wall and finally he and my Mother admitted defeat as the authorities just would not let him bring us across.
Some time ago, I came across some photographs and letters from Bill and this really brought the past back to me.
